Anthony Stolarz: The rise of the American goalkeeper

Born on January 20, 1994 in Edison, New Jersey, Anthony Stolarz made a name for himself in the Public Hockey Association (NHL) as a gifted and dedicated goaltender. Early life and early career

Growing up in Jackson Municipality, New Jersey, Stolarz was surrounded by hockey from the beginning. Stolarz started playing goalie at the age of eight and adopted a butterfly style to represent his level.
Stolarz's skills and dedication earned him a spot with the New Jersey Demons minor hockey affiliate and he went on to play for the Corpus Christi IceRays of the North American Hockey Association (NAHL). His stellar showing in the 2011-2012 season with a 23-22-4-3 record, 2.84 GAA and .920 SV% caught the attention of NHL scouts.

Experienced occupation

The Philadelphia Flyers drafted Stolarz in the following round (45th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He enjoyed two seasons with the Flyers' American Hockey Association (AHL) affiliate Lehigh Valley Ghosts before making his NHL debut on November 27, 2016 against the Calgary Blazes. Stolarz became the first goaltender born in New Jersey to play an NHL game.
Stolarz's experience with the Flyers has been marred by injuries, including an average tendon tear in his right knee and a torn left meniscus. Regardless of these mishaps, he showed promise, posting a 2-1-1 record with a 2.07 GAA and .928 SV% in the 2016-2017 season.
In 2019, Stolarz was traded to the Edmonton Oilers where he played in 18 games and compiled a 4-5-3 record with one shutout, a 3.45 GAA and a .901 SV%. He became a free agent near the end of the season and signed a two-year deal with the Anaheim Ducks.
Stolarz burned through most of the 2019-2020 season with the San Diego Gulls, the Ducks' AHL affiliate, before being called up to the NHL fold. He made his initial start for the Ducks on Walk 11, 2020 and went on to play in eight games, posting a 4-3-0 record with a 2.20 GAA, .926 SV% and one shutout.
On April 12, 2021, Stolarz set a Ducks record for shutouts by a goaltender, making 46 saves in a 4–0 win over the San Jose Sharks. He signed a two-year extension with the Ducks in January 2021, but left as a free agent with the Florida Jaguars after the 2021-2022 season.
